How billing works
OS bills usage from a pre-loaded credit wallet. You pay once to load it, and each service draws from that balance as you use it.
Your card is charged upfront to load the wallet.
Usage is deducted from the wallet as it happens.
When the balance drops to your minimum, your card is charged to reload it.
Manage your minimum balance, recharge amount, and card on file in Settings > Company Billing. As your messaging volume grows, raise your recharge amount so the wallet reloads less often.
All rates below are for the US and Canada. Rates in other regions follow Twilio pricing.

Carrier fees. US and Canadian carriers such as T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon charge their own fees on messages sent to their users. Your total SMS cost is the OS rate plus any carrier fee. Carrier fees vary and change over time; see Twilio's SMS pricing page for current rates.
SMS cost control
SMS cost is set by segments, not messages. One segment holds up to 160 characters. Emojis and special characters shrink that limit, so fewer characters fit per segment.
Characters | Segments | Contacts | Cost |
160 | 1 | 100 | $1.00 |
160 | 1 | 500 | $5.00 |
160 | 1 | 1,000 | $10.00 |
480 | 3 | 100 | $3.00 |
480 | 3 | 500 | $15.00 |
480 | 3 | 1,000 | $30.00 |
800 | 5 | 100 | $5.00 |
800 | 5 | 500 | $25.00 |
800 | 5 | 1,000 | $50.00 |
Check your segment count. Paste your message into the Twilio Messaging Segment Calculator before you send. SMS Templates in OS also show the estimated cost of each message.
Keep each message to one or two segments:
Use SMS Templates. Review the cost estimate before every send.
Use trigger links. Replace long URLs and recording links with trigger links. This alone often saves a segment.
Write short. Aim for 160 characters (1 segment) or 320 characters (2 segments).
Limit emojis and attachments. Use emojis only where they add meaning. Send images and files by email instead.
Check formatting. Copy-pasted text can carry hidden characters, curly quotes, and odd punctuation that add segments.
Send to verified numbers. Every attempted delivery is billed, including messages that fail.
Segment your lists. Targeted sends cost less and convert better than sending to your full list.
Test first. Send to yourself to confirm links work and the copy is clean before a full send.
Review past campaigns. Use past results to tighten copy and cut segment count.
Use AI to trim. Ask an AI tool to rewrite your message under 160 or 320 characters with minimal emojis.

FAQs
I was charged $10–$20 right away, but I haven't used anything yet. Is that expected?
Yes. That charge loads your wallet. It runs whenever your balance falls below the minimum set in Settings > Company Billing.
Am I charged if an SMS fails?
If OS hits an internal error before the message reaches the carrier, you are not charged. Once delivery is attempted, the message is billed, whatever the result. This includes messages that fail from toll-free or A2P numbers, or because of country restrictions. Refunds are not issued for undelivered SMS.
Where can I see my usage?
Go to Settings > Company Billing > See Transactions (under Credits).
Is OS email HIPAA compliant?
Yes. OS has a signed BAA with GoHighLevel. You need the HIPAA compliance package to be covered. Contact the team for details.
Why does my sub-account have a 15,000 email limit?
A sub-account without its own dedicated domain sends from a shared domain, even if the agency has one. Add a dedicated domain to the sub-account to remove the limit.
How does OS pricing compare to other platforms?
OS charges for the emails you send, not the contacts you store. Platforms like ActiveCampaign raise prices as your list grows. On average, this saves OS users about $200 / month. Share your current email usage with us. We'll send a side-by-side comparison with your current provider.
